Trent v. Monmouth County

Gregory S. Schaer, a Monmouth County based New Jersey Employment Attorney located in Manalapan, represented the employee in a lawsuit against their employer alleging claims of sexual harassment.

A Monmouth County Probation Officer received a $75,000 settlement from the County and State to settle a lawsuit which alleged that she was subjected to sexual harassment by a female supervisor after she rejected the supervisor’s advances.

Mary Ellen Trent, of Freehold Township, was employed with the Monmouth County Probation Department for thirty (30) years. She claimed that Carol Wymbs, a fellow Probation Officer, made unwelcome sexual advances toward her after the two became friends in or about 1970.

The Complaint alleged that when Wymbs became Trent’s supervisor, she discriminated against her according to the lawsuit. According to the lawsuit, Trent was subjected to harassment after Wymbs became her supervisor including subjecting Trent to different workplace standards and revoking Trent’s responsibilities including transferring her and revoking her e-mail privileges. Trent also alleged that Wymbs falsely accused her of not properly performing her job.

As the case was about to go to trial in Ocean County, the County paid $50,000 and the State paid $25,000.
